Don Dee vs Firdaus: ‘Bar 4 Bar’ Rap Battle Cancelled Mid-Broadcast, Sparks Backlash

What was meant to be a showdown of lyrical prowess between Don Dee and Mohammed Firdaus Jibreel turned into confusion and backlash after Sagani TV abruptly cancelled the “Bar 4 Bar” rap battle about an hour into the live broadcast.

According to Bra Mudasir, one of the show’s hosts, the plug was pulled after heavy criticism from key industry figures. In an interview on Dagbon FM, he revealed that names like Mr. Tell, Naa Damba, Is Hassan Dablee, DJ Krouch, and Gee Face (Mohammed Hafiz) voiced strong disapproval of the battle proceeding.

But the way it all unfolded has left many fans questioning the professionalism of the move.

Before the cancellation, both artists had been brought into the Sagani TV studio. The stage was set, questions were asked, artists started talking at each other, and everything was aired live, until the sudden shutdown.

Reactions flooded Facebook shortly after.

Torfek Katari> “Mr. Tell, Geeface, IsHassan Dablee, Naa Damba, among others were allegedly responsible for sabotaging and ultimately causing the cancellation of the Bar4Bar live rap contest.
I am disappointed in Sagani TV for two reasons.
1. For failing to recognize that the individuals mentioned are their competitors, and none of them are genuine allies or the brothers they seem to perceive of them. An idea like Bar4Bar is a splendid and an envious one, anybody who share an interest in such events will reserve some ill feeling for it, for the fact that it’s not theirs alone.
2. They gave a damning disregard to the interests of their over 6,000 viewers for the sake of this fewer people, how is 5 people greater than over 6000 people? This is telling any business person such as myself and the like that these individuals are influential than Sagani TV and any business I should do with Sagani, will only be wise that I rather send to these people as Sagani TV has just shown that its under their ampit and regard their opinions much more than their own.
I see…okaayyyy”
Ishmael Zinzam> “There’s nothing like unprofessionalism in calling off a program that will not ends well.
Remember, Walugulana and Krouch issue happened in Sagani TV studio, so what will you people would’ve said if same thing happened between Firdau and Don Dee?. Come-on let’s stop this hypocritical critics and let some things slide.
Did you know that, people concerns and critics brought to Adugalli and Sheikh Yaasin interview was called off by Chief of Lamanshegu? But many were waiting for it to come but it later didn’t meanwhile the interviewee was in Tamale coz of it.
NB; Sagani TV should only apologize for the disappointment but it doesn’t show up their unprofessionalism.
Thank you 🙏.”

The event cancellation has sparked a wider conversation about creative freedom, industry gatekeeping, and the need for transparency within Ghana’s entertainment space especially in the northern regions where such opportunities are rare and highly celebrated.

As of now, Sagani TV has not released an official statement to explain the decision, leaving both fans and artists hanging in the air.
